EDDIE'S BAR is the only bar dedicated entirely to IRON MAIDEN. The owner of those mythical place is the bass guitar player Steve Harris but the responsible person for its management is Manu Da Silva, a spectacular person, super nice and kind.

EDDIE'S BAR is located in region of Algarve, Portugal, on a small village called Santa Barbara de Nexe, a few kilometres of Loule, and if you some day have the opportunity to be in that region and if you are a IRON MAIDEN's fan, the place it is more than indicated for a visit.

THE MANAGER, MáNU DA SILVA ...

To know as everything it started we should return at the beginning of the seventies, when Manu Da Silva meets Bernie Bonvoisin in the Paris suburbs. They become inseparable friends and it is natural when Bernie founds TRUST in 1977, Manu becomes roadie of the group

Manu met  Steve Harris in 1981 when TRUST appears as support band of IRON MAIDEN during The Killers World Tour. Shortly afterwards he accepts Steve's proposition and joins as one of the crew and worked with them in all tours of the eighties.

After Seventh Tour Of A Seventh Tour, Manu then retired to Portugal where he then took on running EDDIE'S BAR at Steve's request which opened in 1989.

Other annecdotes : Manu is a member of Moto Club in Faro, which organises one of the most important motorbike meeting in Europe

Also to note, the film "Les démons de jésus" (see poster and technique file here) directed by Bernie Bonvoisin in 1996. This movie is freely inspired from souvenirs from the youth of the former singer of Trust. He correctly describes The background in which Bernie and Manu lived in the 70's between Nanterre and Argenteuil.

A LITTLE HISTORY OF THE BAR ...

Like many of his fellow countryman, Steve Harris enjoys the weather of the Algarve, a tourist region in the South of Portugal, so much that he decided to build a villa where he lives most of the time, when he's not touring around the world or in his English Manor

The idea of creating EDDIE'S BAR came to him because he wanted to be able to have a couple of beers in a rock pub, however, in that time he couldn't find this type of place in the Algarve. Using the old saying "If you want a job done, do it yourself!", he decided to open its own bar and trust the management to its old friend Manu Da Silva (Ex-roadie from the group)

EDDIE'S BAR opened its doors for the first time on September 14th 1989 and quickly became a Sanctuary for all the true fans of IRON MAIDEN, because the decoration is composed by old artefacts of the band that were kept at Steve Harris's house in Essex.

As soon as we entered in this small world, our eyes will rarely stop, because decoration is so vast that forces us to observe everything that is in the walls, ceiling and in the corners of the Bar. It is with a lot of pride and vanity that we can boast of there being in Portugal, a space like this that attracts people of all corners of the world and where can admire some of the immense things belonging to Iron Maiden, as old and recent pictures, golden and platinum records, posters, flags, rare t-shirts (whose values in the black market reach exorbitant quantities), a Bass of Steve Harris, cymbals of Nicko McBrain's Drums and of other bands, drawings and sculptures done by fans of several nationalities, a sarcophagus among open (with Eddie there inside!) and two of the mummified statues of Eddie, used at stage in World Slavery Tour - 1984/85, among other things.

Unhappily Manu Da Silva is no longer with us. On Tuesday 31st May of 2005, with 50 years, Manu passed away after 18 months of fight against the cancer. Rest in peace!!!

After the departure of Manu EDDIE'S BAR is currently closed. But all maidenfans have hope that Steve doesn't extinguish the dream of Manu and keep the bar opened in its tribute.

THE REOPENING OF THE EDDIE'S BAR

With respect Steve had left the bar closed for over a year following the sad death of his long time friend Manu da Silva who died from cancer in May 2005. (A presentation for Manu and the Moto Club is planned later in the year).

The bar opened on the 18th July ready for the Moto Clube of Faro Rally and concert on the 20th-24th July and is now open for the summer season.

Eddie’s Bar Normal Opening times are 1900 – 0200 Wednesday to Saturday (Check locally for any Special opening events.)

Steve Harris has asked Dave Sullivan to manage the new venture with Jeff Daniels and Terry Rance. Fans will be familiar with these names from the interviews from the Early Days DVD. Dave and Terry were the two founder member guitarists and Jeff was the one and only roadie at the time back in 1975.

Steve says: I can’t think of any body more suitable for this task than Dave Terry and Jeff. As they bring over 30 years of history of the band with them. There was great sadness when Manu died and disappointment when the bar closed and I am very pleased they have agreed to carry the bar on.

Dave says: This is great privilege, over the years I have been a band member, on recent tours a fan and now part of the Eddies Bar Experience. An important factor in re-opening the bar is welcoming the fans from all over the world back to this fine establishment and completing the maiden family again. We have many very old and new items to display in the bar, plus competitions and limited edition prizes to be won.The excitement of this is like our first gig at the Cart and Horses pub back in 1975. We also look forward to welcoming all the local people of Santa Barbara de Nexe and the Algarve to this new meeting place.

Jeff says: Relaunching Eddies Bar is a very exciting opportunity for Dave, Terry and myself, the opening of the bar on the 18th of July is the culmination of 8 months of discussion, meetings and planning to get this project off the ground.
We have a great team in Siann Oram and Charlie Taylor waiting to welcome you, and I am looking forward to meeting the fans in a friendly atmosphere down on the Algarve and sharing the Eddies Bar experience.

Terry says: I think this will be a great opportunity to get to meet Maiden fans from all over the world. And to be part of Iron Maiden once again. Looking forward to seeing you all.
